Frequently asked pre sales licensing questions about Active Query Builder

Q:
What am I paying for when buying Active Query Builder?
A:

All editions of Active Query Builder are sold based on a subscription model. This means that when you purchase one of our products, you receive 12 months of free updates for that product from the date of purchase, be it a minor service update or a major new version. After the 12-month period, and at your discretion, you can pay about 30% of the original price to "renew" the subscription and receive another 12 months of free updates. If you choose to not renew, you can continue using the last version that you obtained or are eligible to use. The 12-month time frame is merely for new versions/updates and has no relevance to the rights of use (as long as the EULA is not violated).

Q:
Is your license on a per-developer basis?
A:

That's right. A license must be obtained for each developer who needs to install Active Query Builder for development purposes (to debug, write code, compile, etc.), even if some of them aren't directly involved in writing code using Active Query Builder API.
Having a license assigned, the developer can install it on one PC at work and additionally he can install it on a solely owned home PC or laptop using it only to continue performing corporate tasks when out of office or at home. If the developer must install it on several work PCs, a license must be obtained for each work PC. A license should NOT be purchased for automated build servers on which the component must be installed only to compile the project in the unattended mode.

Q:
Can I install the component on 2 machines (I'm running a desktop in the office, have a laptop and a home desktop)?
A:

Yes, you can.

Q:
Can I continue to use the products contained within a subscription if the subscription expires and I choose not to renew?
A:

Absolutely. You can continue to use products that you have licensed and paid for as long as you require. When a subscription expires, it simply means that you will no longer be issued any product updates or new product releases.

Q:
I have a build machine. Do I have to purchase a license to the software for a build machine?
A:

If no development is performed on the build machine and its sole purpose is to generate actual builds of your products, then no you do not need to purchase a separate license for the build machine. If, however, a developer uses the build machine for development purposes and this developer does not have a valid license to the products, then yes, you must acquire a separate license for this case.

Q:
Do I have to pay you royalties if I use a component that you engineered within my application?
A:

Active Database Software does not charge any royalties for shipping or deploying the re-distributables (assemblies and auxilary files) to your end-user inside your applications as long as you fulfill the requirements of the License Agreement. In particular, the obligation not to include the component in other components. The latter usage case is subject to royalties. REDISTRIBUTION OF ACTIVE QUERY BUILDER ASSEMBLIES BY THE LICENSEE'S CUSTOMERS AS A PART OF THEIR OWN SOFTWARE IS PROHIBITED.

Q:
What shall I receive after payment?
A:

All of our products are delivered via ESD (Electronic Software Delivery) only. After your purchase, you will receive registration keys or passwords and download links for the archives of full versions by e-mail.

Q:
Will I receive the source code on buying Active Query Builder?
A:

The source code of Active Query Builder is a paid option. You can obtain it only in addition to developer licenses for Active Query Builder which you already own. By purchasing our component with the source code, you will receive all future modifications and improvements of the source code for free.

Q:
I plan on modifying your source code. Will I be able to do that and redistribute the modified libraries?
A:

Yes, you can modify our source code and redistribute the modified libraries. Of course, this does not apply to situations in which you are modifying our code and repackaging our API or controls to redistribute it in your own components for software developers. Please consult our EULA for additional information.

Q:
Why was my credit card declined during the payment process?
A:

We carry out our online software sales via e-commerce providers, such as Plimus Inc. and Avangate B.V. They have their own fraud shield system to prevent credit card fraud on the Internet. Your credit card was probably defined as insecure for some reason and, as a result, was declined.

If you're sure that there are enough funds on your credit card and you have entered your personal information correctly, you should contact us directly at sales. We will endeavor to help you as soon as possible.

Q:
What about your Return and Refund Policy?
A:

We admit that our customers are interested in getting well-described purchase information. Therefore, we recommend you to take advantage of our free trial software downloads that are available on our website. We also encourage you to explore the product pages of our website to obtain comprehensive information about any product.

We're sorry, but we cannot give a refund for the following reasons:

  • You have chosen the wrong product during the purchase process.
  • You have bought the wrong version for your development environment.
  • Your computer doesn't meet the minimal system requirements.
  • You changed your mind after you purchased the product.

We approve refunds only if both of the following conditions are met:

  • If you can't work properly with our product because it has major bugs.
  • If we can't fix these bugs within two weeks.

This money-back guarantee is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. On the expiration of this term, we will endeavor to help you as far as possible, but no refund may be given.

You will find the reference code in the purchase confirmation e-mail. We expect you to have destroyed all downloaded key files or software and have not copied or saved them in any other way. When your refund request has been reviewed, we will send our consent to the processing of a refund to the registrar. Your refund will be credited to the credit card that was charged during your original transaction. The registrar will contact you by e-mail to confirm that the refund has been paid.

NOTE: Charge backs to credit cards or stop payments on checks as a means of "returning" software will be construed as fraud and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Q:
I want to sell my ActiveDBSoft software license. Is it transferable?
A:

We are sorry, but no. When a customer purchases a software license, the software is registered for the customer's name. Once registered, this software cannot be transferred to a third party. ActiveDBSoft provides technical support only for original customers.

Testimonials

We have been using Active Query Builder for over a year and must say that both the product and support have been outstanding!

We chose Active Query Builder due to its flexibility and features, but have been truly pleased by its power and hidden capabilities. ...

In summary Active Query Builder provides excellent components, great support and a very flexible feature set. It has allowed us to provide features to our end users that I did not think would be possible in the first release of our new tools and in a timeframe that was much shorter than planned. I would recommend that anyone dealing with databases in the .Net world should be aware of this component and its capabilities!
