Active Query Builder ASP.NET Edition 2.0 is released.
The new major version of Active Query Builder for ASP.NET environment (ASP.NET Edition) is finally released. You can evaluate the new version by requesting the trial. Customers can download the new version in the Customer's area.
What's new in Active Query Builder 2 ASP.NET Edition?
Changes in the API and behavior:
QueryBuilder properties are reorganized into several options groups.
Metadata Container is completely reworked to eliminate the need for metadata pre-loading. All the necessary information about database structure is loaded on demand now. Container is capable to store all possible types of artefacts, such as linked servers, packages, custom aggregates, etc.
Metadata Structure object is made to abstract from the physical structure of the database when displaying objects in the Database Schema Tree. Now it's possible to re-organize the Database Object's Tree the way you like.
The new Metadata Container and Structure editor allows you to setup the database objects representation for the end-user the way you like.
The list of used database objects and fields (QueryStatistics) can be obtained now for most of the query objects: sub-queries, datasources, query column list expressions.
Changes in the current minor version:
The new ObjectTree.Path property is made. Set default selection by joining namespaces using the slash or backslach symbol.
The new QueryBuilderControl.HandlerPath property is added to specify custom location of hanlders.
How to migrate to Active Query Builder 2 ASP.NET Edition?
Change references to AQB assemblies in your project and change assembly names in the 'web.config' file (handlers and modules sections) because assembly names were changed from "ActiveDatabaseSoftware.ActieQueryBuilder.*.dll" to "ActiveDatabaseSoftware.ActieQueryBuilder2.*.dll". See the updated Quick Start Guides for details. Note that this step is not needed if you update Active Query Builder using the NuGet package.
Replace the QueryBuilder.RefreshMetadata method call with the QueryBuilder.MetadataStructure.Refsresh call in the Init handler. Note that you must call the QueryBuilder.MetadataStructure.Refresh method even if you work in the Offline mode (i.e. without live database connection).

In summary Active Query Builder provides excellent components, great support and a very flexible feature set. It has allowed us to provide features to our end users that I did not think would be possible in the first release of our new tools and in a timeframe that was much shorter than planned. I would recommend that anyone dealing with databases in the .Net world should be aware of this component and its capabilities!
